Beautifying Paris<\/a> was a fantastic opportunity for us to work on Paris, the many identities of the city, its history, ambiances and urban cultures. We drew colors from the city streets, materials and inspiring fiction.<\/p>\nWe choose four sites for their sensorial qualities, exceptional qualities or creative potential. Each of these sites showed us their Genius loci.<\/p>\n
– Porch on rue Bernard de Ventadour, Paris 14th (winning project) <\/span>– Urban promenade, Paris 18th (winning project)<\/span> –\u00a0Keller School wall, Paris 11th – Wall boulevard Raspail, Paris 6th <\/span><\/p>\nParis has its own genius, materiality, changing colors, (un)changing history.\u00a0We collect odds and ends, materials, colors, architectural forms, inhabiting emotions. Then, step by step, in our workshop, we create a new world, patterns appear, Paris\u2019 story is written in color.<\/p>\n
To beautify Paris, the City of Light was our muse.<\/p>\n

Project theme: \u201cOde to love and creation\u201d<\/strong> 1980s postmodernism in dialogue with 12th century love songs.<\/strong><\/p>\nA tribute to two great artists from different periods and schools of thought. An ode to the creations of Mendini and the love of Ventadour.<\/p>\n
\/ Bernard de Ventadour<\/strong> (born circa 1125 in Ventadour, died circa 1200 at the Abbey of Dalon): A character that remains present in the collective memory. \u201cA great 12th-century troubadour, a golden legend, like a light that illuminates dreams and imagination.\u201d \u201cThe finesse of love.\u201d \u201c(Courtly love and other kinds of love), are what makes times and instants stand out, and attempt to align with the breath of the beloved, the rhythms of the cosmos, the scansions of verse, the inhalations and exhalations of the spirit through the flesh.\u201d \u201cEach performance was lived like a unique event, for which the performer had to demonstrate all of their talents.\u201d (internet sources)<\/p>\n\/ Alessandro Mendini<\/strong> (Italian architect and designer, born on 16\u00a0August\u00a01931 in Milan): Precursor of redesign and the postmodernist manifesto of the early 1980s. His redesign focused on reworking objects created by others that he transformed and beautified using new colors and materials:<\/p>\n\n- Art and design: Designing for artistic pleasure, all while referring to pop culture and kitsch. \u201cPurely decorative design that takes inspiration from the past to renew itself.\u201d<\/li>\n
- Giving space for eccentricity through colorful fantasies!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Intentions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Illustrate the sensitivity and intelligence of these two artists through polychrome patterns while playing with various aspects, finishes and dimensions.<\/li>\n
- An eclectic atmosphere, a little kitsch and inspired by the past, helps customize and revitalize the space, all while providing a new energy to the pedestrian experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Project concept:<\/strong> Our project seeks to preserve Parisian architectural heritage. It will attract the eye and bring new passers-by into the space. We want enhance this space with a chromatic identity that contrasts with that of the location, which is currently plain and light.<\/p>\nThis esthetic shift will make the building stand out while transforming the site towards a more postmodern identity. The porch on rue Bernard de Ventadour will become a space to pass through with an ambiance that encourages art.<\/p>\n
The work\u2019s title will be indicated on both sides of the central portico. This will invite passers-by to reimagine the story of the place.<\/p>\n

A polychrome mural in glass mosaic:<\/strong> Adding a glass mosaic as a new material will restore, renovate, cover, reinvest the entire site. The glass mosaic becomes a decorative element that will create a contrast between the existing elements though a postmodern approach. The material, colors and finishes will improve the space\u2019s visibility. This polychrome mural contains 9 geometric patterns of varying sizes inspired by Mendini\u2019s unique style. Each pattern is represented by complementary colors from a palette of 27\u00a0colored glass mosaics by Ezarri, with matte, glossy or textured finishes. The color palette:<\/strong> Blue and gold polychromatic complementary pairs inspired by the color heritage of 1980s postmodernism and the Medieval troubadour Bernard de Ventadour\u2019s only preserved illuminated manuscript. This palette is composed of 27 glass mosaics, 13 of which will be the most distinctive colors. It will be divided into 9\u00a0different patterns.<\/p>\n\n- Central portico: A pattern with two mosaics.<\/li>\n
- Columns: A pattern with five mosaics.<\/li>\n
- Porch entrance (pediment): A pattern with three mosaics.<\/li>\n
