Heading to the west coast, in the heart of the Landes region, for a fascinating study in Soorts-Hossegor !

In Soorts-Hossegor, the charm is immediate, its architecture is distinctly characterful. The town’s signature Basco-Landais style has endured through the decades, but the colors and craftsmanship that define it are gradually fading.

This chromatic charter, the result of extensive on-site research and thorough documentation, preserves the architectural color memory of the area while highlighting its unique and local characteristics.

It serves as a guide for renovation project, whether private villas or public buildings, from the exceptional to the everyday, with a nuanced approach that respects different periods, styles, and traditional techniques, avoiding standardization in favor of contextual harmony.

Nacarat is honored to have participated for the third consecutive year in the NCS Colour Trends 2025+ creation workshop held last week in Milan at our colleagues’ agency, Baolab!

Trends, the values and lifestyles they convey, are a complex social phenomenon to decipher… We were just 10 international experts around the table sharing our visions of the 2025+ color trends : Emma Clerici, Manuela B., Laura Perryman, Clara Bartholomeu, Sofia Uanini, Peggy Van Allen, CMG, Color Anthropologist and Designer, Xiaojing Huang, Astrid Van der Auwera, Karl Johan Bertilsson, and Katrin Nyman. Thanks to everyone for these two intense and inspiring workshop days!

Xavière Ollier, PhD in Applied Arts and Co-founder Partner of NACARAT Color Design, has published her report titled “Color Regulation in Architecture” in issue 90 of the journal *Dossiers Techniques de la Construction* (April/June 2023) by Éditions Le Moniteur. The full article is available by subscription on Kheox, the online regulatory and technical information service provided by Afnor and Le Moniteur.

In France, municipalities are not required to have documents that assist in the selection of façade colors. However, such documents, when annexed to local urban planning schemes or, in more specific contexts, to heritage site dossiers, concerted development zones, preservation and enhancement plans, or proposals for UNESCO World Heritage listing, provide valuable support in enhancing territories and preserving built heritage. The profession of colorist in architecture, which emerged from the second industrial revolution, remains a niche field. Few agencies in France or abroad claim this specific expertise. Nevertheless, the demand for color tools and advice is growing because color represents a real asset for territories, enabling their enhancement and distinctiveness. This article details various existing regulatory and support tools used to enhance territories through color. Case studies provide concrete examples of color implementation in historic centers, modern and contemporary districts, industrial zones and parks, rural areas, and large landscapes.

Our team is very proud to announce the publication of an article by Xavière Ollier, colorist and designer founder of Nacarat, in the scientific journal Color Research and Application, which covers the science, technology, and application of color in business, art, design, education, and industry. The article is titled :
“Color coordination project for the historic shipyard site of La Ciotat: A geopoetic approach to urban color design.”

Xavière Ollier revisits the project she led within Nacarat in 2018 concerning the colorimetric charter for the La Ciotat shipyards.
